[Spread-users] how is DROP_RECV supposed to work?

When I set the DROP_RECV bit in a service_type, and try to receive too 
many bytes for my buffer:

I seem to be getting a return value of BUFFER_TOO_SHORT,
with endian set to the size that would have been required, negated; 
number of groups is set to -1, and the buffer is empty.

What *should* happen here?

I thought that I'd get the buffer filled with as many bytes as would 
fit...
