<ot> Architecturally, MySQL is years away from this because its
transaction support is febal at best.  For PostgreSQL, however,
there's a project called pg-replication that's doing exactly what
you're hinting at.  It's not finished yet, but when it is it'll
provide master/slave and multi-master replication for PostgreSQL.
