Yes, the best case is to have a daemon on every machine where there are 
clients and to have the clients connect to their local daemon.

Sometimes though this is not possible in a deployment because Spread has 
fairly stringent limits on the #'s (30-40) of daemons that can be 
supported within a configuration.  In such a case, it may make sense to 
limit the number of daemons and to have clients make remote connections to 
those daemons.  The performance will be less than optimal but this at 
least allows the system to function where it might otherwise not.
