Hi,

Executive summary:

I'm trying to install and run spread 3.17.4 (default spread.conf) on my
Powerbook G4 running Mac OS X 10.4.8 / Tiger. Whenever I try to run it
however, I get the following error:

[spread license info deleted]
Conf_init: using file: /Marketocracy/Configuration/spread.conf
Successfully configured Segment 0 [127.0.0.255:4803] with 1 procs:
                   localhost: 127.0.0.1
Finished configuration file.
Conf_init: could not get my ip address (my name is crasch)
Exit caused by Alarm(EXIT)

Anyone know what I should do to correct the problem causing this error
message?

" Conf_init: could not get my ip address (my name is crasch)
Exit caused by Alarm(EXIT)"

Thanks!

Chris

More details:

See attached system profile below if you want more details about my
environment. My machine's hostname is crasch, and the DHCP supplied IP
address is 192.168.1.116. I downloaded and installed the Spread
3.17.4.source distribution. Here's how I built and installed it:

./configure --with-zlib --with-ssl --with-openssl --without-apache
--without-apxs
make
make install

It appeared to build and install successfully.

I copied the sample.spread.conf file to
/Marketocracy/Configuration/spread.conf.

I then tried to launch spread as follows (as root):

/usr/local/sbin/spread -c /Marketocracy/Configuration/spread.conf

I got the following error message:

[spread license info deleted]
Conf_init: using file: /Marketocracy/Configuration/spread.conf
Successfully configured Segment 0 [127.0.0.255:4803] with 1 procs:
                   localhost: 127.0.0.1
Finished configuration file.
Conf_init: could not get my ip address (my name is crasch)
Exit caused by Alarm(EXIT)

The /var/log/spread log has this message:

[2006-12-06 17:35:32] Set user name to 'nobody'
[2006-12-06 17:35:32] Set group name to 'nogroup'

[2006-12-06 17:38:20] Conf_init: could not get my ip address (my name is
crasch)
Exit caused by Alarm(EXIT)

Anyone know what might be causing this error? According to "Network
Preferences", my ip address is 192.168.1.116. The address is pingable:

crasch:~ crasch$ ping 192.168.1.116
PING 192.168.1.116 (192.168.1.116): 56 data bytes

64 bytes from 192.168.1.116: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.113 ms

That's the address reported by ifconfig as well:

crasch:~ crasch$ ifconfig

I searched for the error message, but the messages that came up in the
search did not lead to anything that fixed the problem. Any suggestions
for how I might go about debugging this problem further?

Thanks!

Chris
