[Spread-users] spread configuration

Hi, all
I am not clear the segment configuration.(BTW I have
read the users guide)
That is a physical topology, is it right?
According to my understanding, any clients can connect
to a daemon to multicast(not necessarily join the
group) if we do not consider the authentication. 
Then what do other procs do in the segment
configuration?
And how many daemons can one segment have? 

Please help.
