One comment:

The article states that "The Backhand project, at
www.backhand.org, provides three useful applications built on top of
Spread:  one is Backhand, a load-balancing module for Apache servers;"

This is a little bit inaccurate: mod_backhand itself is not built on 
Spread, just Wackamole and mod_log_spread.

Otherwise, looks like a useful and good article about mod_log_spread.
