[Spread-users] Spread scalability

Hi Dan,

The open source version of Spread should work out of the box over limited
wide area networks. We used this version in networks that include nodes at
Hopkins (Maryland), California and Korea with no problems.

However, we don't claim the open source version will work as well on
more than just a few wide area sites. This version is simply not focused on
scalable wide area networks. Even with just a few sites, the performance
will not be as good as can be achieved. I would also think that beyond a few tens
of daemons in the configuration may be less than optimal to use that version.

Over the last several years we have been also working on scalable wide area
protocols for Spread that target a large number of wide area sites (say, 100 wide
area sites with a total of a few hundred daemons). A lot of that research was
published and is on our CNDS publication page. These wide-area network enhancements
are available through Spread Concepts but are not part of the open source.

    Cheers,

    :) Yair.
