Great job with this patch. I've included a slightly modifed version in CVS.
I fixed the bug where the patch will not work with more then 127
connections when char is signed (as is default for gcc on a lot of
platforms). 

If you have a chance to checkout CVS and take a look that would be great.
It should work much better on windows and have a few other bugfixes.

On monday I'll release a beta 3.16.2 with these fixes and updated
docs. That will give us a chance to get broader testing.
